Muktuk Puppies

Most years a new litter of puppies is born at Muktuk to replace dogs who have died during the year. We try to keep the size of our kennel to around 120 to 125 dogs.

We do not sell our puppies because we believe there are already enough dogs in shelters that need a good home. However, some of our retired dogs are available for adoption.

Most of our dogs live to 15 or 16 years old. We do not cull our kennel and we provide paliative care to our older dogs - they have worked hard for us in their younger years and we believe they deserve to be well looked after in retirement! We believe they are having a good quality of life as long as they are eating, drinking, mobile and not in discomfort.

Here are photos of some of our puppies from recent years.

Glacier's puppies were almost all whilte. When puppies start to walk around, their first big hurdle is the ledge at the door of the whelping house. And for the tiny pups it seems like a very high hurdle indeed. At this age shoes are just one more huge thing to explore. In another month that shoe will be a playground, especially the laces...
Solitaire with her pups and Tango's pups. Tango didn't bond with her two puppies, but Solitaire generously adopt them even though she already had seven of her own! Early socialization is really important for our puppies. Socializing with other puppies is also very important.
Cheylsea, our oldest grand-daughter, hidden by one of Marley's puppies. Katy, next in line, with another one of the puppies. Katy may be a musher one day! Tayler, our 3rd granddaughter, with her favourite puppy from Marley's litter.

Frank playing with a pen full of puppies. We're not sure who has more fun! Puppies from Brandy & Latte conceived on Valentine’s Day 2000 at Circle in the middle of the Yukon Quest!
