Follow The YUKON Quest

Get the real "inside story" of the race. Join our crew, beginning with the Start Banquet, where the race starting order is determined, and the Race Start itself (Whitehorse in 2005; Fairbanks in 2006). The start is emotionally charged and very exciting, especially if you get to participate behind the scenes and help a team prepare to leave the start chute.

Over a twelve-day period, you will experience the emotional highs and lows of the entire race – especially the excitement and tension of waiting for teams to arrive at remote checkpoints, and the joy of seeing the teams arrive in good form. If you can't take two weeks, you can join us for one week and see half the race.

Along the way, you will be able to see the mushers running on river trails, passing under bridges, or going past special viewing points we are familiar with.

While the race itself is compelling and exciting, you will also find the drive from checkpoint to checkpoint a very enjoyable experience, with spectacular scenery. To the left is the Tintina Trench, just south of Dawson City.

All Quest mushers and their teams have a mandatory 36-hour layover in Dawson City, located about half-way along the Quest trail. So visitors have a splendid opportunity to watch and meet many of the teams and their mushers at this critical checkpoint.

You will also be able to see the famous "doggie hotels" set up in the campground. You can help the crew walk the dogs, at each feeding break, and cheer mushers on when they head out onto the trail again.

During the layover, you can observe how handlers and mushers care for their teams – a very special behind the scenes glimpse of this exciting and challenging race.

Your guides for this tour have been handlers for mushers in the Yukon Quest, so they can give you real insight into the checkpoint and the race. They can explain some of the strategies behind the feeding and exercise schedules, and explain the role of the race vets.

There are many opportunities to take excellent photographs, so you will want to bring a camera with you.
