| While the race itself is compelling and exciting, you
will also find the drive from checkpoint to checkpoint
a very enjoyable experience, with spectacular scenery.
To the left is the Tintina Trench, just south of Dawson
City. |
|
All
Quest mushers and their teams have a mandatory 36-hour
layover in Dawson City, located about half-way along the
Quest trail. So visitors have a splendid opportunity to
watch and meet many of the teams and their mushers at
this critical checkpoint.
You will also be able to see the famous "doggie
hotels" set up in the campground. You can help
the crew walk the dogs, at each feeding break, and cheer
mushers on when they head out onto the trail again.
|
|
During
the layover, you can observe how handlers and mushers
care for their teams – a very special behind the
scenes glimpse of this exciting and challenging race.

|
Your
guides for this tour have been handlers for mushers in
the Yukon Quest, so they can give you real insight into
the checkpoint and the race. They can explain some of
the strategies behind the feeding and exercise schedules,
and explain the role of the race vets. |

| There are many opportunities to take excellent photographs,
so you will want to bring a camera with you. |
