What is included in our prices
|
Prices
for tour packages include meals, accommodation, equipment,
camping gear, ground transportation and outer clothing as required.
We don't want guests to have extra or unexpected costs.
We have cozy cabins and special Arctic Oven tents. You will be part of the Muktuk Family during your stay. We offer hearty meals often using game meat and we have our own blends of locally roasted coffee! At the end of the day you can relax in our cedar sauna.
Our prices do not include your travel to the Yukon,
personal insurance, and personal items (including alcoholic
beverages). However, our amazing landscapes, the fantastic
aurora borealis and wildlife sightings come free! |

Safety and guiding excellence
|
|
|
Safety
and guiding excellence are of critical importance for Muktuk.
All our staff have First Aid certification and our main guides
are certified in Wilderness First Aid or higher. Our staff start
work in September, well before clients arrive, so that they
can undergo training and work with the dogs. All our equipment
and trips are selected and planned with safety in mind.
Everything from the SAT phone to the snow hook is carefully
considered.
And nowhere will you find dogs who are more friendly or better socialized than our 120+ world-class long-distance sled dogs. Neither will you find another kennel in the area with so many true Quest dogs - Frank easily holds the record for running the most Yukon Quests of all mushers. |

Customized learning adventure
|
|
|
At
Muktuk we specialize in customized learning adventures
that allow our guests to progress at their own pace and achieve
whatever level they aspire to.
To offer this type of program we keep the size of groups
small (4 people per guide). We also keep our programs flexible to allow for changes
at any time and to accommodate the interests and abilities of
each guest. While these tours are slightly more expensive we believe they offer a truly unique experience. |

Dogs First!
|
|
|
Our
first priority is excellent and humane dog care. We try to
give our dogs the best possible care from birth throughout their
lives. For example, we use a top quality food all year round,
not just seasonally.
We also do our best to provide quality medical care for all
our dogs, including our older dogs. They work hard for us in
their younger years so we look after them well in retirement. Our senior dogs
get special care and special food...treated like royalty.
We never 'cull' our kennel and very seldom sell or
place dogs.
Putting our dog care beliefs into practice involves increased
costs for vet care, food and medication. However, we wouldn't have dogs if we couldn't look after them well and we believe
the guests who want to come to Muktuk are people who support
this philosophy.
