About Us & Our Dogs

A Place for people who love Dogs

Muktuk Adventures has raised, trained, and cared for dogs for more than 30 years.

We are highly respected and compassionate dog lovers who genuinely care about canine family, as well as the sport and reputation of dog sledding.

Our dogs – how it all started

Muktuk Adventures started off more than 30 years ago as a racing kennel. In 2008 we participated in the last long distance race. The years following that we started to focus on recreational dog sledding.

We enjoy working in the tourism industry, teaching our guest from all around the world how truly amazing sled dogs are and that they are much more than just working dogs.

Off to new adventures with our dogs

Leaving the world of racing behind also opened another window for us. We are no longer in need of super athletic sled dogs, all we need is a sled dog that enjoys to run and has fun working in a team.

Since 2012 we took in over 60 dogs, coming from different backgrounds such as

  • From other kennels that either wanted to downsize their yard, or the dogs were not suited for their needs.
  •  due to life style changes of their previous owners where the dogs no longer fit in
  • Through the Whitehorse shelter or a shelter in Alaska

Of course in an ideal world they all would join our working force, but as with many things in life, it is not always perfect. If they do not want to be working dogs they retire early and join our oldie gang.

They will also be added to our list of adoptable dogs and if we find a suitable home we will adopt them out. If you are interested in adopting one of our dogs please do not hesitate to contact us.

We do not sell our dogs, we will only let them go if we know that they are going to have the best possible life ever.  Each one of them has its own personality and its own needs, which have to be met by potential new owners. One thing they all have in common is the need for love and affection.

We’re a constantly changing family.  Check up on us every once in a while to see how we are doing! And follow us on Facebook and Instagram to see what adventures we are currently on.

We are operating on a DOGS FIRST philosophy. Everything we do revolves around our dogs.

One of the most ask questions is “Do you know all their names?” Of course we do, they are part of our family and knowing their names is the easiest piece of taking care of a large amount of dogs.

Knowing each of their personalities is much more important. What they like, what they don’t like, who they like and who they don’t like. Just like any other group of individuals there are a lot of different personalities. From shy to outgoing to goofy to super smart to hyper to chilled out you name them. We absolutely love spending time with our dogs.

On top of the mental wellness is the physical wellness. We are very committed in providing

    • top quality dog food all year round
    • monthly veterinarian check ups
    • up to date vaccines
    • worming protocol
    • daily exercise and play time according to each dogs needs
    • acupuncture and massage therapy

We are working very hard all year round to generate enough money through our tours we offer. But we are also fortunate enough that we have support from generous donors. The combination of both revenue streams allows us to provide top of the line care to our canine family.
