Dog Sledding – Winter camping with a Team of Huskies
This dog sledding adventure including winter camping is a once in a life time trip.
Our experienced guides will get you ready for this adventure. The first two days you will get to know your ream while dogs ledding on a frozen river and forest trail. It will also give you chance to test out the winter gear that we supply.
The first nights will be spend in our rustic and cozy wilderness lodge.You will return from your dog sledding trips at the end of the day. Over a delicoused home cooked meal we discuss the day behind us and give tips and pointers where needed.
After spending two days on the trail and learning what it takes, we will take a day off from dog sledding. This will give us a chance to explore some other ways ot enjoying a Yukon winter.
A last loving and trusting look into the eyes of one of your huskies on your team before you pull the snow hook to embark on one of your most powerful and possible most challenging adventure yet.
Our dog sledding and winter camping trip will take you on the historic Dawson Trail. This trail is the same trail that the well known Yukon Quest is using.
Setting up tents in below freezing temperutes will be another challenge on this dog sledding trip. We are using top of the line gear and it will be much easier than you might expect. Sitting around a camp fire you will enjoy delicious camp fire meals prepared by our guide.
Itinerary
Arrival Day
We will pick you up at the airport or a hotel in Whitehorse in the afternoon of Day One. Depending on your flight you will have time to explore the area after you checked into our cozy lodge.
Let the dog sledding adventure begin
Day 2 Meet your guide and sign out your gear for your trip. Let’s not waste any more time and introduce you to our family of huskies and your dog-team for your adventure. you will learn the basics of how to harness and bootie the dogs, before you will head out on the “easy” river trail after lunch time for a short 1.5 to 2h run.
Ready for a day on the trail
On Day 3 after you tested your gear and got some practice on the sled, we will head out for a full day tour on our forest trails. Today it will be a lot more challenging and a bit of a workout. It is all about team work, helping the dogs up hill, controlling them downhill and not hitting the trees in the corners.
Winter camping – here we come
In the morning of Day 4 we will pack our final gear and make any last adjustments before heading out on the trails 2 nights of winter camping. We will start on the Takhini River for about 17km before we leave the river trail and continue the Dawson Trail for another 14km where we will set up base camp.
Day 5 Today you will explore more of the Yukon’s backcountry along the historic Dawson Trail. We will leave base camp for a day trip. Distance will be anywhere from 30 to 45km depending on trail conditions. We will return to base camp.
Welcome home
We expecting to be back to the Muktuk Lodge in the early afternoon of Day 6. After all the dogs are taken care off it is time for you to relax and enjoy the warms and comfort of the lodge.
Time to explore further
After 5 days of dog sledding, you deserve an easy day. Day 7 is all about relaxing. We will be exploring the Wildlife preserve and go for a soak at the hot springs.

Time to say goodbye
Day 8 is departure day. We will drop you off at the airport for your flight. Check out will be 11am but you are more than welcome to hang around the lodge if you have a later afternoon flight.
