Itinerary June 22nd Muktuk to Inuvik

Day one – Your adventure will start with a night in our cozy lodge nestled away in an oxbow along the Takhini River. We will welcome you to our lifestyle with our dogs and discuss the adventure ahead over a delicious homecooked meal.

Day two – Our first day on the road we will drive from Muktuk to Dawson City.

Day three – Exploring Dawson City

Day four – It will be a shorter day on the road. Only about 110km until we reach Tombstone Territorial Campground where we will be camping for the night. As we are arriving early in the day, we will walk/hike Golden Side Trail. The trail will provide amazing views down along the Dempster Highway, the North Klondike Valley and Tombstone Mountain.

Day five – We will get an early start to our day. While we only have a distance of around 380km today, we have to remember we are on the Dempster Highway. The roads can be rough and we never know what awesome view or Wildlife we want to stop for. On today’s trip we are also going to cross the Arctic Circle. Our goal for today is to reach Rock River Camp Ground, located in the Richardson Mountains.

Day six – From Rock River Camp it is only a short drive to reach the border to the Northwest Territories, another breathtaking spot and perfect stop on top of Wright Pass Summit. We will be crossing the Peel River and the McKenzie River via ferry and stop in Fort McPherson. Fort McPherson is a very picturesque community in the McKenzie Delta and home to the Tetlin Gwich’in people. A visit to the graves of the Lost Patrol of the Royal Northwest Mounted Police is a must as well. All together we will drive for about 300km today to reach Inuvik. We will spend 3 nights in Inuvik

Day seven – Today will take a break from driving. We will have WIFI at our accommodation so we can organize pictures, contact family to let them know what a great adventure we had so far. We will also explore the little town of Inuvik.

Day eight – After a rest day we will be back on the road again. Today we will make it to the end of the road the Arctic Ocean. The distance to Tuktoyaktuk is 138km one way. Not a long distance but it is a northern road so it will be a full day trip. Along the drive we get to marvel at some pingos, intrapermafrost ice-cored hills, possible Wildlife and wide-open tundra.

Day nine – Today it is time to leave the arctic behind. We will be flying back to Whitehorse where our shuttle will pick us up and take us back to our lodge for another night. We can also drop you off in Whitehorse if you opt out of staying another night with us. The expected arrival time with Air North at Whitehorse airport is 2:30pm

Day ten – If you decided to spend another night at the lodge, we will bring you either to the airport for your flight or drop you off in Whitehorse for your next adventure.

If you are booking the trip starting on June 29th your itinerary will be backwards. You will be flying from Whitehorse to Inuvik and return via road.

Due to the remote environment and nature of the trip, the itinerary is subject to chance.
